What 0100 means

0100 is 1:00 AM. Military time writes the hour and the minutes as four digits with no colon, so the 01 is the hour and the 00 is the minutes. The hour is below 12, so it is a morning time and the hour does not change — the leading zero is just padding to keep every time four digits long.

One in the morning — deep in the mid watch at sea, the 0000–0400 shift that carries a ship through the night.

Saying 0100 out loud

You say “zero one hundred hours”. The word “hundred” is there because the minutes are zero; if it were 0130 you would say “zero one thirty hours” instead, and at 0105 it becomes “zero one oh five hours” — minutes below ten get an “oh”.
